The mission of the Burnham Park Yacht Club Junior Sailing Program is to provide a safe, fun and empowering learning environment designed to develop the skills required for sailing; to promote personal growth and independence within the sport, to achieve proficient levels in boat handling and maintenance, and to develop decision making skills, while encouraging sportsmanship, leadership and team work.
Our program is designed for students between the ages of 8 and 18 to introduce the sport and art of sailing. During the program, beginner students will learn basic sailing techniques from US Sailing Certified Instructors. More advanced students will learn about sailboat racing, and have the opportunity to participate in local regattas. Our ultimate goal is that each student will become active participants in the sport, and learn valuable lessons in self-confidence, teamwork, and respect for nature and fellow man.
Safety is our main concern and is a priority. All students are required to wear life jackets while they are on the dock and sailing. No exceptions are tolerated.
Our ultimate hope is that each student will become active participants in the sport, and learn valuable lessons in self-confidence, teamwork, and respect for nature and fellow man.
Juniors are grouped by ability and there is a place for everyone including 8 year-old beginners, older 13 or 14 year-old beginners, right on up to the seasoned racer.
Basic Requirements: Students must be able to demonstrate basic swimming skills. After registration has been processed you will receive a medical and a waiver form that must be completed and returned prior to the start of class. Students should bring a change of clothes (including closed toe shoes) and a towel to class each day.
Instructional Equipment: The Burnham Park Yacht Club has 420 dinghies and Holder Hawks in their Junior Sailing Fleet.
No refunds will be issued after the start of the session. Personal checks or money orders should be made to Burnham Park Yacht Club.
