For more then 20 years we have been offering Jr. Sailing classes to the public. Our program is designed for students between the ages of 8 though 18 to introduce the sport and art of sailing.

Our youth sailing program is an extension of Burnham Park Yacht Club’s goals promoting a safe, fun environment to our youth sailors and their families. All of our instructors are U.S. Sailing Level 1 Small Boat and First AID/CPR Certified.

The Burnham Park Yacht Club Youth Sailing Program is designed to give your sailor/s an overall understanding of basic skills of sailing and seamanship to our students of all sailing ability levels. During the program, beginner students will learn basic sailing techniques from US Sailing Certified Instructors. More advanced students will learn about sailboat racing, and have the opportunity to participate in local regattas. We are able to adapt to all of our sailors needs with a low student-to-instructor ratio.

Burnham Park Yacht Club would also like to welcome the student’s parents to the yacht club. When your child is registered in our program, you are welcome to use the club. Just let the manager know you have a student in the sailing school and enjoy our bar and fine dining room. We serve lunch and dinner every day except Monday. We also have many programs and some enjoyable parties on the weekends.

The mission of the Burnham  Park Yacht Club Junior Sailing Program is to provide a safe,  fun and empowering learning environment designed to develop the skills required  for sailing; to promote personal growth and independence within the sport, to  achieve proficient levels in boat handling and maintenance, and to develop  decision making skills, while encouraging sportsmanship, leadership and team  work.

Our program is designed for students between the ages of 8 and  18 to introduce the sport and art of sailing. During the program, beginner  students will learn basic sailing techniques from US Sailing Certified Instructors. More  advanced students will learn about sailboat racing, and have the opportunity to  participate in local regattas.

Our ultimate goal is that each student will  become active participants in the sport, and learn valuable lessons in  self-confidence, teamwork, and respect for nature and fellow man.

Safety is our main concern and  is a priority. All students are required to wear life jackets while they are on  the dock and sailing. No exceptions are tolerated.

Juniors are grouped by ability and there is a place for everyone  including 8 year-old beginners, older 13 or 14 year-old beginners, right on up  to the seasoned racer.

Basic Requirements: Students must be able  to demonstrate basic swimming skills. After registration has been processed you  will receive a medical and a waiver form that must be completed and returned  prior to the start of class. Students should bring a change of clothes  (including closed toe shoes) and a towel to class each day.

Instructional Equipment: The Burnham Park Yacht  Club has 420  dinghies and Optis in their Junior Sailing Fleet.

No refunds will be issued after the start of the session.  Personal checks or money orders should be made to Burnham Park Yacht Club.
